Parent University Parent University teaches families how to build a stronger family unit through recognizing, building, and encouraging character.
The seminar can help parents learn:
• How to praise children for good character
• What traps to avoid so that recognition is not counterproductive
• How to give public character recognitions
• How to approach family members when you don't see eye-to-eye
• What makes an effective appeal and how to teach it to children
Parent University is open to the public. There is no cost to attend. Activities will be available for children age 3 and older while parents attend the seminar.

Win the Window Contest Win a whole window full of cash and holiday gift merchandise valued at over $1500! The merchandise, donated by downtown businesses, will be on display at Ruth Kelly Studio at Second and Broadway from November 9 to December 3.
To enter the contest, participants must complete an entry form by locating an exact replica of the window merchandise in the downtown stores and determine the value of each item. It’s a Christmas Scavenger Hunt!
The drawing will be made from all correct entries. Entry forms can be obtained from Downtown Muskogee, Inc. or participating merchants and can be turned in at these same locations. All entries must be turned in by 6:30 p.m. on December 3, 2009.

Computer Class We'll be covering Google search, maps, and docs. The main intent of the class is to get attendees comfortable interacting with a PC, so the content and activities will be basic. Class will be held in the computer lab on the 2nd floor. Classes are held on a first-come, first-served basis, no sign-up is necessary.

2nd Annual PTO Chili Dinner and Silent Auction The menu consists of homemade chili with crackers, Fritos, condiments, Snack Cakes and Pop. The charge is $4.00 per person. There will also be a Silent Auction with Theme Classroom Baskets and donated Business Baskets. Donations are needed for the silent auction.
Money raised will go toward stage curtains and the second part of the playground fence. The goal for the evening event is $2,000.

Muskogee County Republican Club Dr. Janet Barresi, candidate for Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Education, will be the guest speaker. Dr. Barresi, a retired dentist and former educator founded Oklahoma’s first charter school, Independence Charter Middle School in Oklahoma City and later, Harding Charter Preparatory High School. When asked why she is running for state superintendent, Dr. Barresi said “As a mother first and an Oklahoman second, I don’t believe that our present system of education is adequately preparing our children for the careers and demands that life will present them in the future.” This meeting is open to the public.
