James Gulley was born in Muskogee in 1952. James married Beth Crowell in 1978 and they have one daughter Meagan. He attended Muskogee Public Schools graduating from Muskogee High School in 1971. He attended Northeastern State University for four years.

He has been employed with Love Bottling Company since August 1, 1972 he currently serves as the Vice President of Operations.

He attends New Community Church where he serves as a trustee. His hobbies include flower gardening, golf, fishing, and attending the theatre.
