The City of Muskogee began in 1872 when the Missouri-Kansas & Texas Railroad became the first rail line to cross over the American Indian territory. Muskogee is in northeast Oklahoma, about 50 miles southeast of Tulsa and 50 miles west of the Oklahoma-Arkansas state line. There are approximately 39,000 people that live in the City of Muskogee.
Muskogee is home to the only school that is solely devoted to blind. The Oklahoma School for the Blind provides education options for blind or visually impaired students from infancy to age 21, and currently there are 120 students enrolled. There are presently three higher education institutions located in Muskogee. Bacone College is the oldest school of continuous education in Oklahoma and has been in Muskogee since 1885. Northeastern State University is serving the Muskogee community by expanding educational opportunities through basic skills, lifelong learning, and college degrees. Connors State College is convenient, affordable two year institution building futures one at a time. |
